Help - Game Eligibility for Rating
Games can only be rated if they are played under acceptable conditions, with clocks.
Lightning, Correspondence and Chess960 games are excluded.
It is required that:
- The FIDE Laws of Chess are used, as modified by the ECF Tournament Rules.
While not encouraged, non FIDE rated events where adjudications are possible will be accepted. Adjournments remain part of the FIDE laws of chess.
- Events can be in a wide variety of formats, but the Rating Manager may reject a submission where a format may detract from the integrity of ratings;
an example of an unacceptable format is a simultaneous display. All games in an event must be rated. Submission of partial events will be rejected,
although here sections within an event are regarded as events in their own right. Players must be informed beforehand that the games will be rated.
- A game will be rated if both players make at least one move. Defaulted games, byes and absences will not be rated.
- One of the following rates of play is complied with:
- 1. Rapid Chess
- Each player must have more than 10 minutes, and less than 60 minutes, for all moves. This includes both the initial time control and any subsequent time controls or quickplay finish. When Fischer (cumulative) mode is used, the time available for each player is calculated on the assumption that the duration of the game is 60 moves.
- 2. Standardplay
- Each player has more time than the maximum defined above for Rapid Chess.
- 3. Blitz
- Each player has 3 minutes or more, up to a maximum of 10 minutes. Increments count in the same way as in Rapid Chess.
Of course events must conform with the ECF's Membership and payment requirements.
Events are rated as reported by the organisers; they are not accepted from individual players.
Can a non-Member have a rating?
Yes. ECF Membership is not a requirement for a published rating.
